A FOODBANK in Caldicot has made a plea for help, saying it is “desperately short” of certain foods.

The branch has fed 130 people in need and handed out more than 120 food parcels since it launched last May.

It is run by the Churches Together projects, from Caldicot, Caerwent, Portskewett and Rogiet under the umbrella of the Raven House Trust, a Newport charity which has food banks at Cromwell Road, Bettws and at Stow Park Church, Newport. It is one of four in Monmouthshire.

The foodbank works by exchanging food vouchers, given to people by local agencies, for parcels containing dried and tinned foods which are designed to last three days.

Alison Grenyer, who is one of more than 15 volunteers and a committee member of the Caldicot Foodbank, said: “ We have a desperate shortage of breakfast cereal, UHT milk and tinned meats and fish.”

The organisation relies on donations of dried and tinned food such as soup, sponge pudding, sugar, instant mash, tea bags, coffee and tinned fruit and vegetables as well as pasta sauces, bottles of squash and jam.

The foodbank is open for donations on Wednesdays and Fridays, between 10am and midday at the Caldicot One Stop Shop. Food is issued on Fridays between 10am and midday at Caldicot Town Council offices on Sandy Lane. For more information email caldicotfoodbank@yahoo.co.uk or ring 07925 285994.
