RECYCLING coffee packaging is earning money to do more community work for a residents group.

Bron Afon Community Housing’s office in Llantarnam now has a collection box where people can drop off any brand of coffee refill bags, coffee bean bags, plastic coffee jar lids and single serve coffee sticks/sachets, which would otherwise go to landfill.

The Coffee Packaging Brigade is run by Kenco and recycling experts Terracycle who will make a donation to the St Dials Community Action Group for the coffee packaging items collected.

The treasurer for the St Dials Community Action Group, Kirsty Hopkins, said: “Cwmbran residents are now among the first in the UK to be able to recycle their coffee packaging waste.

“We hope people tell their friends and family about this new service as it will cut what goes to landfill and help our group earn cash to spend on projects in the local community.

“We also collect any brand of baby food pouches, baby wipes packaging, biscuit wrappers and Activia, Actimel and Shape yogurt pots.”

Brand manager for Kenco, Joanna Dias, said: “Kenco is proud to partner with TerraCycle to launch the new Coffee Packaging Brigade.”

Bron Afon is open Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm.
