A CHEPSTOW mum was recognised for her work with animals with a People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) award.

Emma Kyne , 48, was nominated by her daughter, Abigail Geer, 25, for her work as the co-founder of farmed animals’ sanctuary, the Mino Valley Farm Sanctuary. The long time vegetarian and then vegan runs the sanctuary in Galicia, Spain, while continuing to work in Wales.

As well as serving as the organisation’s social media coordinator and event organiser, she visits regularly to work hands-on with the animals. Every year, she runs a stall at VegfestUK to raise awareness about and funds for the sanctuary.

Her daughter Mrs Geer who works with her at the sanctuary said: “My mum is a huge inspiration to me. Every chance she gets, and despite working a full-time job, she makes the world a better place for animals. From mucking out the stalls at our sanctuary to sharing the stories of our beautiful inhabitants at vegan events all over the country, she is an amazing advocate for animals."

PETA’s Mimi Bekhechi said: “Emma Kyne isn’t just a wonderful role model for her own family, she’s a great example for others who are trying to improve the world around them.

"PETA hopes Emma's extraordinary efforts to promote kindness to animals will inspire mums, dads and everyone else to use their voices – and their social-media presence – to speak up for animals, too."
