More than 90 pupils between four and seven-years-old took part in the parade on the yard at the Usk Church in Wales Primary school based on Monmouth Road. The bonnets were designed and created by the children at home some of which were made of straw, paper mache and hay.

Children from the nearby Usk Nursery took part in the parade with Seb Jones winning best bonnet in his class. Winners from the primary school included Flynn George, Thomas Hough, James Morris and Francesca Roderick.

One pupil attached a chocolate Easter egg onto their bonnet and all pupils were given chocolate eggs from the Parent Teacher Friends Association.

Ellie Roach-Rooke, head of foundation phase, said: "We were blessed with fabulous weather and both the children and parents thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The children got to show off their wonderful creations to parents and the other children.

"It was a great ending to the term and start of the Easter holidays."
