A NEW home is being sought for a Garndiffaith mural that will be removed for works to change the former family centre that it occupies into flats.

In October 2007, artists of all ages celebrated the unveiling of their new community mural.

Locals from six different villages worked on the 8.5 metre mural which has adorned the side of Ty Rosser Gwyn community centre in Garndiffiath ever since.

But work has started by Bron Afon to convert the building into eight starter flats for 16-25 year-olds, who are in training, education, volunteering or working, which has meant that the mural needs a new home.

A Bron Afon spokesman said: “We have contacted the Garnsychan Partnership so we can work with them to move the murals to a new location in the area.

“The work we will be doing to improve the building means the murals can’t stay where they are so we would love to hear from local residents about where they think they could be moved and put on display.”

More than 1,000 residents were given the opportunity work on the mural alongside local artist and teacher, Richard Davies.

The youngest resident to leave his mark on the wall was a three-week-old baby who left his footprint on the wall and the eldest was a 92 year-old woman.

The mural, which was funded by the Garnsychan Partnerships Reach Out programme depicts the local landscape, including the British mountain.
