EGGHEADS star CJ de Mooi will be running in the inaugural Severn Bridge Half Marathon on Sunday, August 24.

A keen runner and Monmouthshire resident, Mr de Mooi is running as part of his training regime for next year’s London Marathon, where he is hoping to finish the race in less than three hours.

His target for the half marathon is to complete it in less than one hour 20 minutes.

Mr de Mooi completed his last London Marathon, on April 13, in three hours 16 minutes and won a celebrity competition organised by the BBC. He raised money for first aid charity Millie’s Trust and finished 11 minutes ahead of nearest celebrity rival, Emmerdale star Tony Audenshaw. More than 750 competitors have already signed up for the half marathon since entries opened two months ago.

Severn Bridge Half Marathon race director Paul Dodd said: “We are delighted that CJ de Mooi will be taking part in our event. It is fantastic that he wants to support a local race, and we will be willing him on to achieve his target time. That’s a hugely impressive time, and may even earn him one of our prizes!”

The old Severn Bridge will be closed for the race, the first time that has happened since it opened in 1966.
