AS PONTYPOOL gears up to play host to a new film, a waitress from New Inn has landed a starring 'roll'!

Andrea Fletcher, 37, originally from Cwmbran, has worked at the Bread of Heaven caf on Commercial Street for three years - but now she will be captured serving coffee to Hollywood legend Faye Dunaway.

"I'm so excited - and nervous too," said Andrea, who found out she had been chosen to play the part when her boss, Mark Gregory, phoned to tell her that the producer of Flick, Rik Hall, had requested she play a part.

"I just thought why not?'.

"I thought originally that it would just be an extra in the background but now it seems there's a scene where I get to serve coffee to Faye Dunaway - it still might end up with just my hand though, you never know!"

"It's great for Andrea, and great for Pontypool," said boss Gregory.

"I'm not sure it'll be quite the same as Twin Town and Swansea, but there'll be so many places that people will recognise in the film."

Torfaen county council have informed the Free Press that any disruption due to filming will be kept to a minimum.

There will be a road closure for one morning only, on Thursday, January 18, from 9.30 until 12.30.

The stretch affected will be from the Civic Centre down to St James Hall - which is being used for filming purposes as the outside of a police station - on Hanbury Road.

The Civic centre car park will be unaffected.

The film Flick is all about a 1950s Teddy Boy who returns from the grave to seek revenge on his tormentors, and Dunaway is cast as an American detective.

* NOW'S your chance to be in the film!

Producers of the film are holding casting sessions on February 3/4 and 5/6 at the Newbridge Memo.

The first two days are for a 60s dance hall scene and it is an open casting for people aged between 18 and 50. The second is for a Hallowe'en fancy dress party, and they are looking for people aged between 18 and 25. Please call Lauren Beaven on 01495 766417.
