MORE than 150 people took part in the third annual Devauden races.

The event included a10k and 3k, as well as 1k race for seven to eight-year-olds and a dash for the under 6’s. The race was won by Matt Colllins of Chepstow who ran it in 36 minutes and 18 seconds.

The first woman to finish was last year’s winner Katherine Matthew, of Chepstow Harriers, who ran it in 38 minutes and 54 seconds beating the course record for the women’s category. Ms Matthew received £100 and came third overall.

Organiser John Brooks said: “They all showed great enthusiasm.”

Harry Carter, 12, of Kilgwrrwg has a heart condition known as hypoplastic left heart syndrome and has a pacemaker but ran 1k.

He said: “I want to take part in the 3k next year.”

The winner of the local race was Jonathan Carter, of Kilgwrrwg, Harry’s father, who completed the course in 47 minutes and 10 seconds.
