ABERGAVENNY writer Owen Sheers has been shortlisted for the 2014 Wales Book of the Year it was revealed this afternoon.

The author is one of nine in contention for literary honour.

The verse-drama follows three young soldiers from Bristol who are sent to Afghanistan.

The winners of the 2014 Awards will be announced at a ceremony in Caernarfon on 10 July. Each category winner will receive a prize of £2,000, and the two main winners in each language will receive an additional £6,000.
