IN CELEBRATION of the Tour De France's Grand Depart coming to Yorkshire this summer, the National Trust is presenting a tour of outdoor cinema screenings.

Following an initial sell-out screening at Malham Cove, demand is expected to be high for further Tour de Cinema events at Brimham Rocks, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal and Ravenscar.

And to really get into the spirit of cycling, visitors are being encouraged to arrive on two wheels in celebration of the Tour De France and as part of the Yorkshire Festival 2014.

High definition outdoor screens will be set against the National Trust's spectacular backdrops for showings of classic films and cutting edge documentaries – and all are free.

Visitors can sit back and enjoy some of the best films about cycling and Yorkshire life, including Alan Bennett’s rarely-seen A Day Out and The Big Melt, co-directed by Martin Wallace and Jarvis Cocker.

Joanna Royle, from the National Trust, said: "We want to encourage visitors to come and support Tour De Cinema at one of our forthcoming screenings and turn up on two wheels.

“By contrasting our stunning landscapes with high definition big screens we are delighted to be presenting a range of specially selected films on cycling and Yorkshire life for all to enjoy.

“Tickets are free and getting booked up fast, so reserve your tickets now."

There are many cycling routes from and to the various sites to suit both the leisurely to competitive cyclist, and each site will have a place to lock up bikes.

The Brimham Rocks event will be on Saturday, May 17; Fountains Abbey on Saturday, June 14; and Ravenscar on Saturday, June 21, and all are from 5pm until 10pm.
