THOUSANDS of visitors are expected to descend on Abergavenny’s Bailey Park over the bank holiday to attend the annual steam rally.

Last year, visitors to the Abergavenny Steam, Veteran and Vintage Rally raised £22,000 for charities and organisers are hoping this year’s rally will raise more.

The two-day event has been organised by the Abergavenny Steam Rally Co Ltd since 2010 with profits given to the Abergavenny Steam Rally Co Ltd to hand out to charities within the area.

Enthusiasts will be treated to a parade of steam engines through the town before reaching Bailey Park, classic cars and tractors, demonstrations, displays and musical performances.

Making a return this year are old favourites the children’s tug of war with steam engines and the ladies steering competition.

Show organiser, Derek Lewis said: “This year we have a great show, with outstanding arena events and a great collection of steamers, veteran and vintage machines.”

The rally takes place on May 25 and 26 between11am and 5pm. Entry is £6 adults and for those aged 12-17 and OAPs £3. Children go free.
