BABY Hallie-Rose Howarth has gone home for the first time since she was born – after losing her 24-year-old mum.

The tot was born two weeks ago, and her mum Caroline Howarth died days later after an asthma attack caused her heart attack. She never got to see her baby.

Dad Lee Howarth brought newborn Hallie-Rose back to their home in Talywain for the first time since his wife’s death on May 10.

Baby Hallie-Rose was taken home from the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport on Wednesday night and has since been settling into her new surroundings.

“Everything is good,” proud dad Lee told the Argus.

“Everything is fine.

“Caroline’s mum and I brought her back at around 7pm on Wednesday night and she is doing really well.

“She has her own room – it’s a bigger bedroom than mine.

“She was up all night on Wednesday but I am just trying to get her settled, it was only her first night at home.

“We are just going to stay put and get everything sorted.

“I am trying to get her routine sorted and I am relying on family support.”

The joy he has experienced in bringing home his baby daughter is tinged with sorrow.

Mr Howarth is currently busy organising the funeral arrangements for his wife, alongside adjusting to his role as dad to Hallie-Rose.

The Argus reported how Mrs Howarth died after suffering an asthma attack coupled with a decreased level of oxygen in her blood, which caused her to go into cardiac arrest during an emergency caesarean section to deliver the baby.

Mrs Howarth gave birth to a healthy baby girl, named Hallie-Rose on May 8, but the new mum’s heart stopped for an extended amount of time in which she suffered loss of oxygen to the brain and she was placed on life support.

The family decided to allow her to pass away peacefully on May 10, just two days after the birth of her daughter, when four of her major organs were supported by machines and it became apparent there would be lasting damage to the brain.

Since then tributes have continued to pour in for Mrs Howarth, and the Ivy Bush along with Caerleon Town AFC have started fundraising for the baby.

The Ivy Bush now plans to hold another fundraising night on June 21 called ‘Caerleon Rocks For Caroline’ which will feature artists from Caerleon coming together to raise funds from 8pm onwards.

Meanwhile fundraising continues on the Just Giving page ‘Donations in memory of Caroline Howarth’ set up by Caerleon Town AFC player Jonathan Tattershall, which has raised £500 towards its goal of £2,500.
