TRIBUTES have been paid to a Torfaen teacher who has died after suffering from cancer.
Father-of-four Huw Llewellyn was diagnosed with cancer at Christmas and had been taken to hospital with a serious infection. As a consequence of the infection Huw suffered a "severe stroke and passed away peacefully", a statement on the Fairwater High School website said.
The school called him: "a true professional, with a big heart who genuinely cared for the pupils of Fairwater High School."
The statement added: "He was a kind and compassionate man who always put the interests of the children first. Huw will be sadly missed by his colleagues, pupils, parents and governors."
Head Teacher at Fairwater High School, Helen Coulson, said: ‘Huw had a big heart and genuinely cared for the pupils of Fairwater High School. He was kind and compassionate and will be sadly missed by his colleagues, pupils, parents and governors. Our thoughts are with Carol and their children at this tragic time.’
The chairman of Governors at the school, Rosemarie Seabourne, said: “Fairwater High School was all the richer for having Huw as a member of the staff team, it will now be grieving with his loss. Our thoughts are with his wife and family at this sad time, God Bless.”
