MORE than 500 people mourned the loss of a Cwmbran biker at his funeral yesterday.

Kevin Morgan, 60, tragically died on Saturday, June 21 following a collision on the A449, while riding his white Kawasaki motorcycle.

His funeral took place yesterday with the service held at the Holy Trinity Church, Pontnewydd, followed by a burial at Llwyncelyn Cemetery.

Among those at the service were around 70 bikers who rode to the church to pay tribute to their fellow motorcyclist.

Officiating at the service was Reverend Canon Harald Thomas who led the congregation into the hymns Morning Has Broken and The Lord’s My Shepherd.

The gathering was told by Rev Thomas that Mr Morgan “lived life in great spirits” and that the family were comforted by the fact that he “died doing something that he loved”.

One of five siblings, Mr Morgan was born in Brynmawr and enjoyed his first job with British Steel in Ebbw Vale.

He met his wife Anna, who is from Cwmbran, in Tiffany's nightclub, Newport, and the couple got married on October 29, 1983.

They had three children, Gavin, Dean and Melissa, and the couple lived together at their family home in Hollybush for over 30 years.

In his youth, Mr Morgan played soccer and also enjoyed fishing and walking.

He always had an interest in motorbikes and a passion for cycling.

Mr Morgan enjoyed cycling in Normandy to see the D-Day landing beaches and he was especially proud of a climb on his mountain bike in the French Alps.

In a tribute, Mr Morgan was described as a “real gentleman” who was “100 per cent biker”.

Following the burial, family and friends gathered at Cwmbran Workingmen’s Club to share memories of him.

The customers of South Wales Superbikes in Newport organised a ride in the morning to honour Mr Morgan prior to the funeral.

One group rode from Newport and another group from Brynmawr and met at Abergavenny Bus Station, a known meeting point for bikers and one that Mr Morgan would have used.

The groups then rode together back to South Wales Superbikes in Queensway Meadows before leaving for the church service.
