A BIKER who dies on the Heads of the Valleys Road near Abergavenny is named as Alwyn Pritchard.

The 53-year-old motorcyclist died as a result of a crash on the A465 just after midnight on Saturday.

Mr Pritchard, who was from Nantyglo, was a Community Support Officer with Gwent Police and had been working with Usk Neighbourhood Policing Team for six years.

Mr Pritchard's family said today: "Alwyn was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was a caring and loyal man, respected by everyone who met him. No words could ever describe how much he meant to our family and friends. He was an outstanding role model and made an impression on so many people throughout his life in the police force and as a foster parent.

“He was our rock and we will try to live up to his expectations and wishes. Nothing will stop the pain we are feeling and although we can never bring him back, he will live on in our fond memories and in our hearts. We are truly heartbroken.

“If there is anyone that has any information about the accident, no matter how small, please come forward"

Chief Constable Jeff Farrar said: "Alwyn was a committed, kind and conscientious Community Support Officer and was a valuable part of Usk Neighbourhood Policing Team. This is a tragic loss and he will be sadly missed by the Force, his colleagues and of course the community. Our condolences remain with Alwyn's family"
