BARACK Obama and Nelson Mandela are among the Nobel Peace Prize winners who have had a tree planted in their honour at a Cwmbran primary school.
Pontnewydd Primary held a peace tree planting ceremony on Friday in which they planted 16 trees, each named after Nobel Peace Prize winners. Each class chose their own prize winners, including Martin Luther King, Mother Teresa, Baroness Bertha Sophia Felicita Von Suttner and the Dalai Lama.
The whole school, which has 450 pupils, took part in the ceremony and learnt about the work of the Nobel Peace Prize winners. The trees which were planted along the three playgrounds were wild cherry, crab apple, silver birch and copper beech.
Sam Rowland, deputy head teacher, said: "It went really well all the children were really excited to be a part of it."
