Police say a 45-year-old local woman has been charged with: aggravated vehicle taking, driving without a licence, driving without insurance, theft, possession of a class c drug and has been bailed to appear at court October 8th.

Resident of Emlyn Road, Talywain David Evans had his Suzuki Splash badly damaged and is now suspecting it will be a right off. David was also the first resident to make a 999 call.

He said, “I was sat watching the television with my wife when I heard a massive crash, it sounded like a bomb had gone off.

I looked out the window and saw debris flying everywhere outside and heard something crash into my house.

“When I went outside my car had been hit off the road and had skidded down the street. There was glass everywhere and we couldn’t get out. My neighbour’s car had come crashing down to where my car is usually kept.”

“My wife looked out of our front door at the damage and started crying, it was just terrible. We have had a few accidents happen over the years on this road, but this is definitely the worst.”

“With regards to my car, we are just waiting to hear back from our insurance company, but it wouldn’t surprise me if most of the cars on this road will be completely written off.”

Resident Sam Cooper said, “I didn’t see anything. I just heard it and then came out of my house; I was one of the first ones. All I saw was a women get out of her car down the road and that was it."

His grandfather Gwyn Jenkins, 65, of Varteg Road, Talywain, said: “It’s lucky no one was outside. I am very surprised no-one was hurt.

"Everyone is very shook-up by it", he added.

Emlyn Road resident Ryan Jenkins heard a bang and saw a woman get out of a crashed car.

The 16-year-old said: “I got up and she just got out and I saw all the cars were smashed to pieces.

"She was holding her arm.

Abersychan ward councillor, Wayne Tomlinson described the scene as “looking like a tornado had passed through”.

He added: “There were eight damaged cars and police were at the scene diverting traffic.

“There were parts of cars everywhere and they were badly damaged - it is a miracle that no one was hurt.”

He described how one car had been pushed up against the side of a house and that the incident had left all of the residents on the road in shock.

A 45-YEAR-OLD woman has been arrested and is in police custody following a road accident involving several vehicles in Talywain today [Sunday, September 21].

The woman was driving a red Renault Clio when it collided with several parked cars on Emlyn Road.

Police officers were called to the incident at 3.50pm and reported no injuries. The road currently remains closed.

Police are talking to witnesses of the incident but are appealing for more. Anyone with information is urged to call Gwent Police on 101 quoting log 359 21/09/14.
