MORE than 100 pupils and staff at a Torfaen primary school celebrated 40 years with a 70s dress-up day.

Greenmeadow Primary School took part in the 70s dress-up day on Friday which saw the whole school get into the 70s theme to celebrate school’s 40th anniversary.

Year 3 and 4 teacher Beth Newton said the day had been a huge success with 190 pupils and 30 members of staff taking part.

“The school opened in 1974 and so we plan on having a year of events starting today to celebrate 40 years,” she said.

“The parents came up with the idea of having a 70s day and all the kids and staff dressed up.

“We held an assembly where we looked at the original log books from the school head master during that time.

“We also had 70s music playing at lunchtime.

“We did a lot of research into the 70s with pupils watching a PowerPoint presentation where we compared life in the 70s to now.”

The school also hope to celebrate the anniversary through the decades over the course of the school year.

Headteacher Michelle Green said: “It was good to see the children dress up in their 70s costumes.

“It is a lovely start to our year.”
