A WOMAN has died five weeks after being seriously injured in a collision with a car near Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny.

Liselotte Maria Haas, aged 70, who lived in the town, died earlier this week at the University Hospital of Wales (UHW) in Cardiff.

She was a pedestrian when involved in the collision, with a Skoda hatchback car, on the A40 Brecon Road at around 4.30pm on Tuesday, September 9.

Initially taken to Nevill Hall Hospital to be treated, she was subsequently transferred to UHW, where she died on Monday, October 13.

An inquest into her death was formally opened in Newport today by Gwent coroner David Bowen, who then adjourned the hearing while further investigations are carried out.

He said a post-mortem investigation carried out at UHW had revealed that Mrs Haas died of complications arising from a blunt head injury, for which she had undergone an operation. She had also sustained multiple fractures in the collision.

Gwent Police inquiries into the collision are continuing.

The driver was arrested at the time on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and remains on bail.

Witnesses are asked to call Gwent Police on 101, quoting log number 337 09/09/14.
