PEOPLE across Gwent will gather today in silence to mark the moment the guns fell silent in the First World War on Armistice Day – the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918.

Today we print more of our photographs from Sunday’s Remembrance Parades.

In Usk around 350 people gathered outside the Royal British Legion before marching to St Mary’s Church.

President of the Usk and District Branch of the Royal British Legion John Harrhy, 78, said: “The turn-out in Usk today is tremendous.”

Lorraine Bottomley, assistant chief constable for Gwent Police, laid a wreath at the memorial in the churchyard. She said: “It’s a chance to think of the sacrifices people made and it’s a happy time as well for people to remember and get together.”

David Davies, MP for Monmouthshire, said: “I’m very pleased to be here to remember the sacrifices of those who have died protecting our freedom.” Nick Ramsay, AM for Monmouthshire, said: “It’s particularly poignant given the centenary of WWI. As was said in the service, we will remember them.”
