A MAN today denied causing a Cwmbran motorcyclist’s death by dangerous driving on the A449.

Vincent Hamlyn, aged 33, of Sedbury Lane, Tutshill, near Chepstow, pleaded not guilty to causing the death of Kevin Morgan near Newport on June 21 last year.

He was granted conditional bail at Cardiff Crown Court before his trial starts there on May 11.

Judge Stephen Hopkins told him he must live and sleep at his home address, must not sit in the driver’s seat of a car, and must not drive any vehicle.

Mr Morgan, 60, from Cwmbran, died at the scene of a crash with a black BMW.

Hundreds of bikers took part in a ride-out in his memory last summer and more than 500 people attended the dad-of-three’s funeral in Cwmbran in July. Tributes described him as a “gentleman” and “100 per cent biker”.

He had lived with his wife, Anna, for over 30 years and was born in Brynmawr, his first job being at British Steel in Ebbw Vale.

He met his wife at Tiffany’s nightclub in Newport and they married in October 1983.

Mr Morgan’s interest in cycling led him to visit Normandy to see the D-Day landing beaches and friends said he was especially proud of his mountain bike climb in the French Alps.

The day before Mr Morgan’s funeral, South Wales Superbikes customers organised a ride to honour him. One group rode from Newport and another from Brynmawr, both meeting at Abergavenny bus station before riding back to Queensway Meadows in Newport.
