THE South Wales Argus was allowed a behind the scenes look at the first phase of development works at Cwmbran Stadium as part of its £2million revamp.

Torfaen Leisure Trust will invite the public to view the new development at Cwmbran Stadium on April 7.

All ready for its first group of children is the 500sqm soft play structure called Go Play, which can cater for up to 150 children at any one time.

There is also a new 19-element vertical adventure climbing playground called Go Vertical and a party room and cafe and seating area.

The new 350sqm fitness suite with functional training will open on April 11.

The trust board approved the proposals at the start of 2014 and the works started at the stadium last December.

The trust has worked on a commercial funding package from the private banking sector for the project, which is expected to cost around £2m.

Torfaen Leisure Trust chief executive Sally Church explained that the redevelopment would help deliver on three keys aims, namely have “more people, more active, more often”, support long-term sustainability and future investment, and ensure value for money.
