CHILDREN took to the stage to compete in a range of Welsh music, singing and dancing competitions at Pontypool’s Inter-schools Eisteddfod.

This week saw two days of competitions, with the infants taking to the stage on Wednesday and the junior pupils competing yesterday.

The junior competition saw pupils take part in solo recitation, woodwind, singing, recorder, brass strings and folk dancing.

Winning the South Wales Argus cup in the choir competition was New Inn Primary School. While winning the junior schools competition overall was Griffithstown Primary School.

The infant’s competition saw pupils compete in musical composition, group recitation, solo recitation, solo singing, folk dancing and a choir competition.

It was the 17th annual festival organised by Pontypool Community Council.

It was attended by a wealth of dignitaries including The Mayor of Torfaen Mandy Owen, The Mayor of Blaenavon Sylvia Lewis, Pontypool chairman Gaynor James and Cwmbran chairman Steven Evans.

Cllr Gaynor James, said: The event was really enjoyable. The community council did a great job in putting the event together and the school teachers and pupils worked really hard which was shown in the quality of the performances.

“The pupils were so excited to be a part of the competition and really well behaved. It was a fabulous day.”
