KRIS BOYD, the Kilmarnock striker, will not be rushed into a decision on his future, though Rangers still remains the most likely destination for the Bank of Scotland Premierleague's leading goal-scorer.

Sheffield Wednesday tabled a [GBP]500,000 bid for the 22- yearold last Thursday, with Rangers having bid just [GBP]200,000 the day before. The Rugby Park club accepted the English side's offer but The Herald understands Boyd is intent on holding out for a move to Ibrox.

However, Raymond Sparkes, the player's agent, insists that the former Scotland Under-21 internationalist will take his time on making a decision on his future.

"I am just sitting and waiting for the phone to ring, " said Sparkes. "I am taking my time; there is no need for me to be chasing anybody around. Kris is still a Kilmarnock player and will be, at the very least, until the end of his contract in the summer.

"We are allowed to speak to clubs directly in January, but we want to wait and see what happens. There are still a number of days until the transfer window opens and we will then have another month in which it will remain open.

"We will continue to wait, unless Real Madrid come in for Kris and put a zillion pounds on his wages . . . in which case he would be in Madrid tomorrow morning. But we are in no rush to go anywhere else."

Sparkes insists Alex McLeish, the Rangers manager, has made no direct contact with him over the striker, "but I am sure they are one of many looking at him, " he added.

"Alex McLeish has problems to be resolved before he turns his attention to signing players. They should be completely aware we are taking our time. Alex might feel he has to react quickly to stop Kris going somewhere else, but there is plenty of time. It will all be resolved, but the situation is at a very peripheral stage.

"Unless we get a remarkable offer, then it is in everybody's best interests to sit and wait. I cannot see this issue being resolved that quickly."
