FOUR south Worcestershire schools have been chosen to represent the area in a competition for young business brains.

Teams from King's School, Worcester, Worcester Sixth Form Collage, Malvern St James and The Chase, Malvern will now go through to the Worcestershire and Herefordshire round of the Young Enterprise Company Programme event at Worcester's County Hall, on Tuesday, May 5.

Students representing 14 schools from all over south Worcestershire gathered at Morgan Motors in Malvern for the competition reflecting a real-life business scenario in which students have to set up their own companies. They nominate company roles including managing director and finance director, make a product and then take it to market. The presentation evening gives students the opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned by participating in Young Enterprise. Their presentations represent a snapshot of their experience in running a business.

South Worcestershire Young Enterprise area board chairman Paul Moult said: “Again this year all students participating in Young Enterprise have exceeded expectations and the four companies going through to the next level will no doubt do us proud. Each year I’m amazed at the tenacity, product innovation and entrepreneurial skills that our young people demonstrate by taking part in Young Enterprise. Practical thinking, working as a team and learning about business-like behaviour will also help them to succeed in the world of work and that’s why the programme offers an invaluable experience.”

The team called Venture from The Chase formed a six-a-side football league events company, while Malvern St. James' company produced scented. Luna from Worcester King’s School launched an innovative pocket punch product and Worcester Sixth Form College’s Allied produced a locally sourced "Worcester in a Box" concept.
