A Bexleyheath woman has been reunited with a Good Samaritan who came to her rescue after she blacked out at the steering wheel.

Roisin Benham, 20, fainted when she was driving along Crofton Road in Locksbottom to visit her grandmother at around 8.45am on Wednesday (April 22).

Businessman Osman Ertosun was crossing the road when he noticed other motorists beeping their horns at Ms Benham’s car, which was blocking their path as it ground to a halt.

The 48-year-old dad-of-two smashed one of the car’s back windows before climbing inside to steer the car to safety while his friend, Clive Male, dialled 999.

Ms Benham, a trainee sports therapist, has been able to thank Mr Ertosun, also known as “Ozzie”, of Crofton Road, after News Shopper managed to track him down.

She told News Shopper: “I don’t know what happened.

“I can’t remember a thing up until I woke up in the ambulance.

“Ozzie was absolutely lovely. I am just so thankful that he was there.”

Paramedics treated Ms Benham, of Broadway in Bexleyheath, at the scene and took her to the Princess Royal University Hospital in Farnborough.

Excelcare chairman, Mr Ertosun, meets his friends for a drink at nearby Costa Coffee, on Crofton Road, most mornings.

He said: “As I was crossing the road, I noticed there were a lot of people beeping at a car.

“She was just out of it.

“I couldn’t open the door because of the central locking.

“So, I picked up a billboard from outside one of the estate agents and smashed the back window.

“I jumped through it and pushed her head back up.

“After about four or five seconds, I noticed the colour coming back to her face.

“She didn’t know where she was or what had happened.”
