STUDENTS at Dyson Perrins have unveiled a brand new outdoor covered seating area in response to demand for additional sheltered spaces during break and lunchtimes.

The school's Student Parliament has helped deliver the scheme and shown democracy in action.

Following a rigorous election process earlier in the year, students were appointed to listen to students’ views and bring them forward to the governors for full consideration.

Head girl Leah Daly said: "The project highlights the vast ability of the school parliament to listen to the students and put their ideas into action, with great support from the school staff and governors."

Deputy headteacher Suzie Bourne said: "We are very proud of the way the students have embraced the opportunity for meaningful decision-making within our school, and have brought about practical and visible improvements for the whole school community.

"The parliament gives students a genuine experience of voting for representatives and seeing their views acted upon.

"We are committed to involving students fully in the leadership and governance of the academy."
