COLEG Gwent students brought a touch of Hollywood glamour to Ebbw Vale with a catwalk show that raised over £600 for a charity.

The NVQ Level three hairdressing students at Blaenau Gwent Learning Zone competed against each other in a sell-out, end of year catwalk show to raise the money for the Noah’s Ark Appeal.

The students used recycled materials to create a fantastic array of designs. Over the course of two nights they showcased their creations inspired by classic and recent films such as Star Wars, Frozen and Maleficent.

Their creations were judged by salon owner, Dean Poole of Dean’s Hair and Beauty, Oakdale.

Categories in the competition were Avant Garde, cut and colour, with prizes being awarded for first, second and third place.

Student, Racheal Johnson said: “The experience of preparing for and taking part in the show was out of this world. As a winner of the Avant Garde category and second place in the cut and colour category, it was the best day ever.”

The show was an entire campus effort with students from music, stage and lighting, catering, art, construction, and media all departments contributing their specialist skills to the production.

Hairdressing lecturer, Mandy Smith said: “The standard of work the students produced was outstanding.”
