THE family of a Torfaen biker who died following a crash have spoken out to thank everyone who tried to help him.

The funeral of Richard Williams, 24, took place on Thursday, July 23, at Gwent Crematorium, with over 200 people attending.

As we previously reported, the former Sebastopol resident died after the crash on Rover Way in Cardiff on Wednesday, July 8.

Mr Williams’ mother, Margaret, from Cwmbran, said she would like to thank the people who stopped on the side of the road to try and help him.

She also heaped praise on the University Hospital of Wales’ accident and emergency department staff.

During the funeral service, the family chose pieces of music to play, including Mr Williams’ favourite song, Bring Me to Life by Evanescence.

Other pieces included Innocence by Halestorm and Sweet Child O'Mine by Guns N' Roses.

Mrs Williams added that the crematorium was full, with people also having to stand outside, as friends from all aspects of his life came to pay their last respects.

She added: “I would like to thank everyone who attended, including his school and university friends, people from air cadets, work colleagues and bikers.”

She also said the family have been greatly supported by Gwent Police and family support officer David Griffiths.

Previously his family issued a tribute to him, saying: “Richard was a loving son, grandson and nephew to his mother, father, John and all of his family who are completely devastated.

“Known to his friends and family as “dickie”, he was a local boy to Cwmbran who enjoyed a good education at Croesyceiliog comprehensive school before gaining a degree in mechanical engineering at Newport University.

“He later worked at Fitzgerald’s Engineering in Cwmbran where he was a popular member of the team and his passion was spending time in his garage carrying out engineering projects for his family and friends. He was happiest when he was pottering with anything mechanical.

“Richard was also an accomplished guitarist and had recently joined a local band.

“He was loved to bits by all his family and he will be dearly missed. He will always be remembered.”
