PONTYPOOL Museum is appealing for old china sets and teapots to keep the premises going.

The local history museum in Park Buildings sells china donated by visitors in its tea room.

Up to £400 has been raised through donations in the past year.

Museum administrator Sue Allford said yesterday: “It is going very, very well.

“We are putting out a call for more china. It started in the summer last year.

“We’ve asked staff and volunteers and members of the public if they had old china if they could bring it in.

“We then resell them in our tea room - we sell it at a very reasonable price.

“There is a lovely display which enhances our coffee shop and it makes money at the same time.”

The china appeal came after more than 500 people backed a Free Press campaign to boost the numbers of visitors going to Pontypool Museum.

We teamed up with the local history museum in a bid to attract new members and make up for a £19,000 council grant shortfall.

The campaign brought an extra £10,000 to their coffers.

A Figure Four exhibition featuring a collection of mixed media work by four well known Torfaen artists is on at the Oriel Barker Gallery until October 26.

Other exhibits include cafe art in the coffee shop with mixed media artist Christine Duggard and all year displays including exhibits from the First World War as well as Japanware.
