AN Abergavenny eatery has been named in a national good food guide.

The Hardwick Restaurant, run by chef Stephen Terry and his wife Joanna, features at number 16 in the top 50 pubs in the UK in the 2016 Good Food Guide.

The Good Food Guide owned by Waitrose is a guide to the very best restaurants and eateries across Britain. It is celebrating its 65th anniversary this year.

The awards recognise restaurants and chefs who have shown excellence in their field.

Each pub has earned its place through its score in the guide, inspector’s reports and strong reader feedback.

The Hardwick was the only Monmouthshire-based pub to feature in the top 50.

Mr Terry has worked under Marco Pierre White at Harveys and Le Gavroche, under Michel Roux Jnr.

On receiving the award, Mr Terry said: “We're very happy to have achieved 16th place in the guide, it's great for us and great for Wales and it is a reflection of our staff's tireless work to provide a consistent service and product."
