FLOOD Alerts are in place in Gwent as rare 'supertides' approach today.
The alerts are for the Usk Estuary at Newport and the Wye Estuary in Monmouthshire.
The high tide at Newport this morning is expected to reach 7.3 metres at 8.40am. High tide at Chepstow will be 25 minutes and at Tintern 45 minutes later than at Newport.
The abnormally high tides follow yesterday's 'supermoon', which saw the Moon at the closest part of its orbit to the Earth. This closeness means the height of tides increase.
The Severn Bore is also expected to appear this evening from 8.50 BST for half an hour.
