THE CHRISTMAS lights switch on event in Penarth has been cancelled due to high winds.
The town council announced the decision just after noon on Sunday, November 29, the day the event was scheduled to take place, citing safety concerns.
A tweet from Penarth Town Council said: "We're very sorry to announce that due to ongoing high winds, today's event is cancelled. We are so disappointed but must put safety first."
The lights were due to be switched on in an official ceremony at 5pm after a parade through the streets of the town at 3pm as part of the town's Christmas Festival.
The lights will now be turned on remotely at 3pm and more information will be provided next week.
