Marlborough Town 3 Malmesbury Vics 4

MALMESBURY VICS scored four goals away from home for the second weekend in a row to take all the points at Marlborough on Saturday.

Marlborough, with a strong wind at their backs, opened well although they rarely troubled Jack Haines in the visitors' goal.

Indeed it was Malmesbury who came closest to scoring in the opening exchanges when a rasping drive from Tyler Quinnell was just too high.

The home side took the lead in the 15th minute when an unmarked Craig Simmonds drove home from the edge of the box.

Five minutes later the game was all square when Clint Walker rose highest to a Ewen Kenny free kick and headed home.

The Vics continued to pressurise the home defence and took the lead in the 37th minute when Alan Griffin turned and fired into the bottom corner after good work by Joe Thornton.

Playing with the wind in the second half Malmesbury looked a far better team.

On 49 minutes, Griffin scored his second with a smart glancing header at the near post, after good work by Sam Jenner.

Five minutes later a shot by Sam Parker struck a post after more good work by Thornton.

Simmonds managed to pull a goal back for the hosts, finishing well from an unmarked position.

Griffin and Kenny both subsequently went close for the Vics, before the former had a goal disallowed for a push and then rattled the bar with a powerful strike. The goal of the game sealed victory for the visitors in the 87th minute when Parker burst through the home defence before blasting home from fully 30 yards.

But there was still time for Marlborough to pull another goal back when Devan Bryan scored from the penalty spot just before the final whistle after the referee spotted an infringement on Simmonds.

Vics MoM: Joe Thornton.
