A YOUNG man is in a critical condition in hospital after a crash between Wickwar and Chipping Sodbury.

The 19-year-old was driving a Peugeot 206 along Wickwar Road towards Chipping Sodbury at 9pm on Friday (November 27).

It is not clear what caused the car to leave the road but the vehicle ended up in a hedge. No other vehicles were involved.

The man, understood to be from Wickwar, is believed to have been on his way to work a night shift at the Waitrose supermarket in Chipping Sodbury.

A police spokesman said: “We were called at just before 9pm on Friday to a single car collision in Wickwar Road, Chipping Sodbury.

“A Peugeot 206 left the road and ended up in a hedge.

“A 19-year-old man suffered serious injuries in the collision and he's in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

“We're appealing for any witnesses who haven't yet spoken to the police to come forward. If you can help please call the collision investigation unit on 101.”

The road was closed for several hours and traffic was diverted to Horton and across Sodbury Common.
