A MONMOUTHSHIRE road has been shut after a crash between a car and a lorry.

Firefighters were called to the crash which happened between two vehicles - a car and a heavy goods vehicle - on the A40.

Diesel spilt out into the road following the accident between the turning for High Street in Raglan and the B4598 at Llanellen.

The accident happened at just before 7am this morning.

The road is currently closed westbound and a diversion has been put in place via the old Raglan road and Pontypool.

Jennie Griffiths, head of South Wales Fire and Rescue Control, said fire crews have contained the diesel spillage and have made the area safe. At 7.40am she said the fire service had left the scene.

Traffic heading eastbound is unaffected.
