A MONMOUTHSHIRE ten-year-old braved the rain on Saturday to complete a 20km walk in aid of a stroke charity after seeing her mum upset over a colleague’s death.
Georgia Grant Crichton, from Llanvihangel Crucorney, set up her own fundraising event for the Stroke Association after her mother's colleague died from a stroke at the age of 45.
On Saturday, Georgia completed 20 laps of 1km around Bailey Park in Abergavenny. The 10-year-old set off at 11am and finished around 4pm.
She said thanks to the generosity of people around the park along with the 20 family and friends who came to support her she raised £200 on the day.
This brings her total raised to around £500.
She said:"I'm really pleased with that. It has been really fun - I've had all my friends and family near which has been helpful to keep going.
"It has been raining but I have enjoyed it. I've kept a steady pace and tried to keep focused.
She added: "Some laps I have been joined by friends or family members which has been nice to keep me company."
Scott Grant Crichton, 63, and his wife Dawn, 47, said they are proud of their daughter for organising the event on her own.
Mr Grant Crichton said: "She's done really well. For a 10-year-old 20km is quite a substantial walk.
"She's kept up a good pace and has been doing about four laps per hour."
Georgia has been training for the walk over the past few weeks, and has gone for walks with family and friends.
