A NEWPORT woman has helped to restore her brother’s prized car which had been left to rot in a Pantygasseg barn after he was diagnosed with a third brain tumour.
Huw Morgan, originally from New Inn, has kept is 1984 Vauxhall Astra GTE in a Torfaen farm and had wanted to fix his car, but was unable to devote the time to it due to ill health and work commitments.
His sister, Rowena O’Sullivan, contacted the National Geographic TV show ‘Car SOS’, which works along a similar premise as the BBC’s DIY SOS, to help Mr Morgan, who now lives in Tenby.
“He always said that he wanted to fix his car, but after he beat the first two brain tumours, the third diagnosis knocked him for six,” said Ms O’Sullivan, 45 of Caernarvon Drive, Rhiwderin.
“He was a fan of the show so I got in contact with the producers, they liked the story and set about trying to help him restore his car.”
Mr Morgan was unaware of the work being done to his car, which he first acquired in 1993, and was surprised by the show’s presenters, Fuzz Townshend and Tim Shaw in March.
Along with their father, Barrie Morgan, Ms O’Sullivan appeared at the big reveal, which was organised under the guise of a book signing with Colin Charvis, which Mr Morgan attended.
The episode of Car SOS involving Mr Morgan’s car will air on National Geographic UK tonight (Thursday, May 26) at 8pm.
