A runaway cat has made a new home for himself in a Ceredigion village after completing his very own incredible journey.

Tabby cat Cookie turned up in Brongest near Newcastle Emlyn recently, but the year-old puss is believed to have come from Port Talbot - nearly 60 miles away.

Cookie’s new landlady has been taking care of him since he turned up unannounced on her doorstep, but is desperate to reunite him with his original owners – if they can be found.

‘He was hanging around the house for many days and I asked several of the new neighbours in the village if they were missing a cat, but they weren’t,” said Deborah Rushton.

“I started feeding him and took him to my local vets to be scanned and was told that Afon Vets in Post Talbot had micro-chipped him.”

Staff at Afon Vets made several attempts to contact the owners, but were told that they have moved house and failed to update the contact details on the chip.

“Getting in an article in the paper is my last attempt at finding his owners,” said Deborah, who already has 15 cats of her own.

“I’ve posted pictures of him on line in the south Wales areas and sites but to no avail.

“He’s very happy here and it would be great to know how he arrived in the village of Brongest. I’m sure he didn’t walk, but maybe he was left here after a holiday or got into someone’s car, or maybe he was dumped, but why go to the cost of neutering and micro-chipping and then only to dump him.”

Deborah is crossing her fingers that she will eventually be able to shed some light on Cookie’s amazing journey.

“If only he could talk, he would have a good tale to tell,” she said.
