HUNDREDS of visitors braved the inclement weather and attended one of the biggest days in the Caerwent calendar.

The 41st Caerwent Agricultural Show took place at the Monmouthshire town’s village hall and playing fields, with stalls and a variety of entertainment keeping the public in high spirits.

Following last year’s 40th anniversary celebrations, organisers said that the 2016 show would be even bigger, with new stalls joining the established ones from years gone by.

Stephen Richards attended with his birds of prey, which included owls and hawks, as one of the regular fixtures of the Caerwent show.

He said: “I’ve been coming to the show for 31 years, but for the last 15 years, I’ve been coming with the birds.

“I started out with a few injured barn owls and aside from the Harris Hawk, all the birds are rescue animals that my wife and I take care of.

“They don’t like the wind and rain much, but it is great to bring the birds along and that goes especially for the children. Some of them never get the chance to see birds of prey so close.”

Big Sky performed live music for the crowd, while a barbecue and stalls selling local produce kept their hunger at bay.

One of the most unusual additions to the Caerwent Show was the fitness stand, organised by Emma Gould and her ‘Kangoo Jumps’.

“The shoes are designed to reduce impact on your joints when you run, but my partner and I have adapted this into a fitness class that takes place in Caerwent and other places across Gwent,” she said.

“We’ve been showing off the shoes to people at the show, which look a bit difficult to master at first but after a while, it’s just like any normal shoe really.

“The shoes are a fun way to get into exercise, and it is suitable for all people and all abilities – kids are fascinated by them as well.”
