A STRING of improvements to including an interactive water play area are planned for a Torfaen leisure facility.

The re-development work at the Pontypool Active Living Centre (PALC) will feature two squash court and multi-use area, a refurbished fitness suite and an enhancement to the café area.

The main pool at the Pontypool facility, along with the hydroslides, are under renovation, after a number of the tiles ‘popped like Rice Krispies’, prompting the need for essential maintenance.

However, the trust has announced that these developments will be taking place at PALC, once the costings have been agreed.

Alun Williams, the chair of Torfaen Leisure Trust, said: “I’m delighted with the exciting proposals for the redevelopment of Pontypool Active Living Centre.

The proposals put forward are for improvements that will increase visits to the PALC. We passionately believe that our customers should have access a great experience to modern and vibrant facilities.

“This is a great opportunity to say thanks you to our current customers and members for their loyalty and the new facilities will offer a significant attraction to new customers and enable us to grow our business and improve the health and fitness of more people in Torfaen,” said Mr Williams.

Last month, the trust announced that a grant of £215,000 would be spent on replacing the all-weather playing surface at Cwmbran Stadium.

The CEO of the trust, Sally Church, added that the aims behind the re-development are getting more people active, long term sustainability and future investment as well as offering value for money.

Ms Church said: “The refurbished fitness suite will also benefit from floor to ceiling windows which will allow a view of the Pontypool Park for customers of the fitness suite.

“By converting areas such as squash courts will enable us to meet the demand, we know is there, for more and better fitness and sports facilities.

“We are planning subject to cost to provide two squash courts and a multi-use space by installing a movable wall.

“The Trust will ensure that all customers, residents and other local club, or community groups will be kept up to date on progress with the proposals,” she added.

The delivery partner will be Alliance Leisure who worked with the trust on the redevelopment at Cwmbran Stadium.
