A CHEPSTOW singer who graduated from a top music college is hoping to become a West End star after furthering his career with an MA.

Michael Lowe was featured in the Free Press back in 2012 after getting a place at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama to put him on the path to his dream career in vocal studies.

After five years on the course and graduating with a first class honours degree, Mr Lowe will complete a one year MA Musical Theatre course at the college, which only offers 12 places.

The course is renowned for having previous applicants go on to perform in West End musicals such as The Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables and lasts for one year.

Mr Lowe is hopeful that the course will take him in the right direction to finding a West End agent who will represent him in his career.

He said: “I am delighted to be returning to the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama for a fifth consecutive year, having had a very successful time there already, winning the prestigious Ian Stoutzker Prize, premiering my own material, including the musical Columbine, and performing for HRH The Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace in February this year.

“The course culminates in a high profile showcase (in Cardiff and London) and a final production, attended by agents and casting directors, which should hopefully result in me finding representation by a West End agent.”

Mr Lowe is also holding a concert on Saturday, September 24, which will feature some of his favourite songs from stage shows, as well as a performance of brand new material from his own musical Columbine.

The concert will take place at Chepstow’s Drill Hall at 7.30pm and tickets cost £10 and are available only on the door.
