DESIGNER clothes worth £10,000 have been stolen from a Torfaen shop in an overnight raid, just weeks after it opened.

Bradley Kirby opened the clothing shop in The Highway, New Inn, Pontypool, after a "year's hard work" building his 'Staunch Clothing' business.

But his delight turned to dismay when he arrived to find his store ransacked last week, with £10,000 worth of stock gone.

CCTV footage of the incident, in the early hours of Tuesday September 20, captured a group enter the shop. No cash was taken in the raid, but Mr Kirby said he believes the burglary was planned as the group took “every single clothing item”.

“After being open two weeks I have lost everything," added the 23-year-old.

"It’s disgusting but at the moment I’m just trying to make ends meet and continuing my trading online."

The entrepreneur built his business using his laptop to sell clothes through Facebook before launching a website for larger clothing orders.

Staunch Clothing sells a range of items ranging from trainers, hoodies and t-shirts, to sweatshirts, baseball caps, chinos and jeans.

It stocks brands including Adidas, Nike, The North Face and Berghaus.

“Over the past 10 – 12 months everyone has commented how hard I have been working to get this shop open,” Mr Kirby said.

“Now on Monday morning I have nothing to do. I do feel a little embarrassed that I have been burgled."

"In the CCTV footage they tried to force entry through the front door before trying several side windows," he added of the raiders.

"Eventually one got through a small window through the side.

"One of them wasn't wearing gloves and several screwdrivers were left there. Looking at the CCTV they were there for around three hours. How no-one saw anything is beyond me.

“The only thing I can say is that my shop will be back open and this isn’t going to stop me. I plan to open again in the next month and I'm going to come back stronger and with more security."

Gwent Police are currently investigating the incident. They said there had been no arrests as yet.

A spokeswoman added: “Gwent Police is currently investigating a break-in at Staunch clothing store on The Highway, in New Inn, Pontypool where approximately £10,000 worth of stock was stolen.”
