Malmesbury Vics 2

Cheddar 2

HONOURS were even at the Flying Monk on Saturday as Malmesbury Vics played out a 2-2 draw with a decent Cheddar outfit.

The Vics took the lead on 10 minutes when Andy Baker's first-time ball in was headed home by Sam Parker.

Goalkeeper Josh Langley very nearly doubled the lead a couple of minutes later when his long kick evaded everyone and almost bounced over his counterpart who just managed to tip the ball over the bar.

On the half-hour Cheddar equalised when Josh Hughes was penalised on the edge of the box and the free kick was tamely put past an unsighted Langley.

The Vics regained the lead two minutes later when a long ball was flicked on by Parker into the path of Josh Russell who coolly chipped the keeper for his first goal in Vics' colours.

The second half was a fairly even affair and Ed Wilkins nearly added a third when he was put through by Tim Bond but his effort cannoned back off the post.

The home side rode their luck when the Cheddar centre forward beat Langley with a chip only for that to come back off the crossbar.

However, continued pressure from Cheddar told 10 minutes from time when they equalised with a strike from the edge of the box.

A draw was probably a fair result against a team that will definitely be up there challenging come May. Midweek games are now finished so Radstock at home on Saturday is the next match for the Vics.
