DOUBLE Olympic medallist Becky James paid a visit to Melin Homes to talk to staff about her incredible journey in cycling.

Staff at the Pontypool based housing association heard how Ms James came back from a cancer scare and career-threatening knee and shoulder injuries which forced her to take two years out of the sport. After battling back from these injuries the world champion spoke of how she bounced back to become a two time silver medallist at the Rio Olympics.

The cyclist's visit was part the fifth anniversary celebrations of Melin’s award winning health and wellbeing initiative Zest.

Ms James, said: “It was brilliant to come and visit Melin and share my experiences on and off the track. It’s great to see a local organisation committed to health and fitness for its staff and residents.”

Sharon Crockett, assistant director of Business Consultancy, said: “Having the chance to hear a world class athlete’s story, especially one as inspiring as Becky’s, was a fabulous way to round off Zest’s 5th anniversary. From supporting various national health campaigns to the numerous healthy events aimed at improving our staff and residents physical and mental wellbeing, Zest goes from strength to strength.

"We have to say a huge thanks to Becky for taking the time for us to hear her story.”
