THOUSANDS of festive foodies are expected to descend on Abergavenny for the sixth annual Christmas Food and Drink Fair on Sunday.

Organised by Abergavenny Food Festival, the one-day event will offer a selection of Christmas food and produce.

The fair will run from 10am until 5pm at Market Hall with food demonstrations on throughout the day.

Much of the food on offer will be found at more than 85 stalls, so here is a selection of those that will be present on the day:

1. Alex Gooch, Artisan Baker

Quickly becoming a household name, this famous baker supplies deli’s, hotels and restaurants in Wales and along the border. With rye, mixed grain sourdough, ciabatta brioche, spelt bread and cakes there will be plenty to choose from.

2. Black Mountains Smokery

This is a family-run gourmet food business based in the Brecon Beacons producing award winning smoked foods, traditionally cured and smoked at their smokehouse in Crickhowell.

3. Gluten Free Uprising

Specialising in producing beautiful gluten and dairy free food, this company has been shortlisted for a second consecutive year in the national Free From Food Awards.

4. Welsh Coffee Roasters

The small batch dragon roasted coffee, freshly made to order using top grade coffee beans, is grown by small hill farmers on tropical mountainsides.

5. Trealy Farm Charcuterie

Another award winning artisan British producer which showcases free-range British meat and combines

technology with traditional methods of curing, smoking and air drying inspired by training with charcuterie makers across Europe.

Visitors will also get the chance to get top tips from an array of renowned chefs from across Gwent and the UK.

6. Simon King, Restaurant 1861

10:30am to 11:15am demonstration

Simon King has been a chef for 18 years and in that time, has worked with and learned from some of the best including Martin Blunos and the Roux brothers.

He now runs Restaurant 1861 with his wife, where they focus on producing fabulous food with seasonal and local ingredients.

Mr King will be preparing a Christmas pudding mousse with a cranberry sorbet.

7. Liz Knight, Forage Fine Foods

11.30am to 12.15pm demonstration

Liz Knight describes herself as ‘a country living, greedy thirty something mother of three children, who has had to learn to cook one handed and eat in a hurry but still loves playing with her food.”

She started Forage Fine Foods driven by a passion for the food heritage of rural Britain.

This year she will be making some immune boosting wild tonic cocktails to help keep the cold at bay.

8. Rachael Watson, The Abergavenny Baker

2.30pm to 3.15pm demonstration

Rachael, a self-taught baker, local GP and the woman behind Abergavenny Baker, will be introducing us to an irresistible miniature German Christmas Stollen with fruit soaked in rum.

Her knowledge, passion and enthusiasm will inspire you to get baking this Christmas.
