A CHEPSTOW sixth form student raised more than £1,000 for a mental health charity by holding a fundraising concert.

Rosie Levy, 17, came up with the idea of hosting the concert as a way of shedding light on the struggles of young people suffering with mental health issues.

Around 160 people turned out to the event at Chepstow Drill Hall to see Miss Levy and several other musical and dramatic talents from the area, perform.

The Wyedean School pupil, who played songs from Disney films and compositions by Ludovico Einaudi on piano, said: “It was a real success, it was absolutely packed with people of all ages,

“When I was performing it didn’t feel like I was standing in front of loads of people, these were the local community and they created a nice atmosphere.”

Other acts who performed on the night include the Chepstow Musical Youth Theatre, who sang an array of songs from modern musicals and students from the Dell Superstar Singing Club.

Ceira Moulton, Josh Hicks, Nataley Simpson, Nikkita Miller all did vocal solos while Josh Hicks and Sophie Hayward entertained the audience with Latin and ballroom dancing.

The stage was also shared by harpist Sephy Canty and Ellis Fryer, who performed a piano and flute solo.

The Angel School of Dance gave a rendition of Meghan Trainor’s “Me Too”.

The event raised a total of £1030 for YoungMinds, a charity which seeks to help improve the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people.

YoungMinds has also helped to support Miss Levy, who was herself diagnosed with depression and anxiety disorder two years ago.

Miss Levy said of the event: “I found it all quite overwhelming, I didn’t think it would create so much support.

“It gives me hope that the local community got behind such a worthwhile cause and I feel the concert broke down some of the stigma.”
