MILFORD Haven pensioners have enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch - thanks to the young people of the town.

For the fourth year running, Milford Haven Youth Council members prepared the traditional meal for pensioners at the town’s youth centre on Friday.

This year they invited St Francis Catholic Primary School choir to provide entertainment, and the pensioners certainly enjoyed a medley of songs.

The Christmas lunch is just one of many schemes the Youth Council runs in an attempt to improve relations between young and old.

They also organise an annual Victorian tea party, trips and other community events.

Pembrokeshire County Council’s Nick Hudd, deputy manager of the Community Youth Team, explained: “Such projects not only demonstrate the investment young people have in their community, but also develop a sense of community safety, with the older generation building trust in the town’s young people.

“With financial help from the Town Council and Tesco - which also provides staff - and support from the local Neighbourhood Policing Team, the lunch is a real community event that is valued by all.”
