TWO schools in Monmouthshire that are undergoing rebuilds as part of the 21st Century Schools programme are “on track”.

The new Caldicot and Monmouth secondary schools are part of the £1.4 billion initiative between the Welsh Government and Monmouthshire County Council, with the latter contributing £81 million to the pot.

In October of last year, the council agreed to make a further £5 million available for the project to avoid overspend.

Footage captured by drone operator Andy Hoffrock with help from Caldicot Town Team shows steady progress being made on Caldicot School.

Caldicot School is 12 months into its 18-month build and is planned to be open for the new academic year in September.

Monmouth Comprehensive, meanwhile, has entered into the main construction phase and is set to open for the 2018/19 school year.

A Monmouthshire County Council spokesman said: “Both projects are progressing well and to plan with no current delays reported or envisaged.”
