THE Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning of wind to the five former Gwent boroughs as Storm Doris arrives in Wales.
The warning was issued at just after 6.25am this morning, and will cover Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen.
Very strong winds of up to 60 mph are expected across the warning area, while in coastal areas and hills, the gusts could reach 70 mph.
The chief forecaster’s assessment read: “A rapidly deepening area of low pressure, named Storm Doris, is moving quickly east across the UK with strong winds on its southern and western flanks.
“Whilst there is confidence in the very windy spell, there is still some uncertainty about the track of Doris, and therefore the extent of the strongest winds.”
Travel services could be affected including some restrictions on bridges and disruption to ferries, while there could be some damage to trees and buildings.
An amber warning of winds up to 80 mph will be in place in north Wales affecting Ceredigion, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, Isle of Anglesey, Powys and Wrexham.
The warning will be in place until 8pm this evening.
